Bereavement Counselling

You Are Never Alone

If you’re searching for bereavement counselling you couldn’t have come to a better place. Our team of bereavement counsellors really understand grief and the overwhelming pain it can cause within us. Just trying to get through every day life can feel like a struggle.

People come to us when they are mourning the loss of a parent, a partner, a friend or even a beloved pet. Or maybe you’re struggling with a different kind of loss, such as ending a relationship, a life change, or something you can’t quite put into words. Whatever it is you’re grieving, we can help.

We offer free consultations for bereavement counselling to give you the chance to talk to one of our counsellors so you can see if it’s right for you.

Take the first step towards healing by calling 0151 706 8035, or heading to our contact page.

Why Grief Affects Everyone Differently

Grief doesn’t follow a script. You might feel fine one minute and then get hit by a wave of sadness out of nowhere. Or maybe you feel nothing at all and wonder if something’s wrong with you. Both are normal.

Maybe you:

  • Can’t sleep at night
  • Feel exhausted during the day
  • Struggle to eat or overeat for comfort
  • Snap at people you love
  • Feel detached from everything
  • Are numb, foggy, or constantly on edge
  • Cry in the car or in public and don’t know why
  • Find yourself staring at photos and feeling nothing

Some people feel guilty for not being there. Others feel anger that their loved one left. And some feel relief followed by shame. Emotions collide in ways that don’t always make sense.

This is all perfectly normal for people struggling with grief.

Grief is unpredictable. It takes its own time. there are no deadlines and no quick fixes. You might feel like everyone else has moved on while you’re still stuck in the same place. Or maybe you’re the one holding it all together for others while falling apart quietly inside.

It’s different for everyone. And no matter how it shows up for you, it’s never easy to deal with.

Grief can hit you just a few days after a death or even 20 years later. Grief can resurface when you least expect it. You might hear a song, smell, a particular smell, or visit a place and suddenly you’re back in that moment of loss.

If you’re grieving, it’s important to know that your pain is valid. You’re not “doing it wrong”. There is no right way or wrong way to grieve.

Counselling Can Help

Our bereavement counselling isn’t about fixing you. You’re not broken.

It’s about having someone to walk beside you while you figure things out at your own pace. No pressure, no judgement, just friendly support.

You don’t have to explain everything clearly. You don’t even have to talk much if you don’t want to. Some people speak for the whole session. Others sit quietly and cry. Both are welcome.

Grief counselling can give you the space to:

  • Space to breathe without having to feel like you’re being watched
  • Talk about your real thoughts and feelings without having to worry about upsetting if your family or friends
  • process your thoughts and feelings in a private space
  • Talk openly about the person or pet that you lost
  • You’ll have some support when it comes to difficult dates on anniversaries
  • Talk about any unresolved questions or regrets

Many people come to our bereavement counselling after years of holding it in. Others come straight away. There’s no right or wrong time. Over time, things can feel lighter.

Not perfect, but more manageable.

You might be able to sleep better. Breathe a bit easier. Laugh without feeling guilty. You will be able to connect with others again. Feel a sense of hope return.

People who have visited us often tell us that just having one person who truly listens without trying to fix them makes a world of difference.

What Does A Typical Session Look Like?

Once you’ve had a free consultation, you will have the option to book a full session with one of our highly qualified and experienced bereavement counsellors.

In the first session, we talk about:

  • Where you are right now
  • What kind of support you might need
  • What feels manageable for you moving forward

Some people want regular sessions. Others book a session when they feel like they need it. Some people just want to talk to someone once and get it all off their chest. All of that is okay.

We understand that every person is different. Some people prefer to talk. Others like to write down their thoughts and feelings into a diary or journal. Some bring photos. Others bring silence. There is no wrong way to grieve and no wrong way to begin.

You decide how you want to spend your time in your sessions.

Bereavement counselling is about support, not pressure. Let’s walk through this together. One step at a time.

Well, what can I say. Thank you so much! I haven't touched a single cigarette after my session with you and I feel fantastic. I knew that I wanted to give up smoking but I was scared I would miss it. I can honestly say that I have absolutely no desire to ever smoke again. Brilliant!

  • J Lynn

    The Wirral

I had smoked every day for 20 years and have given up in one single session with you. I feel great. The session was very relaxing and an all round pleasant experience. Thank you.

  • Tom

    Manchester

I really can't believe that I haven't smoked a single cigarette after seeing you three weeks ago. I walked away a non-smoker as has my wife and my brother since. I can't believe I am able to stand in a smoky pub and still feel a real sense of pride at not wanting to smoke. It really is a great feeling.

  • Andy

    Chester

I had tried literally everything to give up smoking. You were recommended to me a by a colleague at work. I thought I would give it a go. Wow! A month has passed and not a single craving. I am a non-smoker after one single session and very proud of myself. Your approach was a very unique experience for me...

I am writing you this letter with such gratitude. I had lived with depression for a number of years and had tried almost everything. When I came to see you, I really was at rock bottom. Your approach was quite simply wonderful. I understood the therapy immediately, no fancy words or phrases. I couldn't believe it only took me 8 sessions, after what seemed like a lifetime of misery! Not any more, I have since got a new job and things are going great. So thank you.

  • Dawn

    Chester

Thank you so much for all your help. I really didn't believe that I could feel this good after feeling so bad for such as long time. I am now able to enjoy life so much more without feeling anxious at all. I haven't suffered a panic attack once since completing therapy with you and I feel so much more relaxed around people. My family have noticed a big difference too and I feel on top of the world!

  • Rob

    Cheshire

I immediately felt comfortable with your approach. I know I am not the easiest person in the world to deal with and before I came to see you at the consultation, I had made up my mind that I couldn't be treated, as I had tried numerous things to help rid me of these feelings. I really didn't know what to expect. However after the consultation, I came away feeling that there was light at the end of the tunnel. You kept me motivated and I saw it through. I can't believe the change in me... thank you so much!

  • Anonymous

I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know that I am feeling fantastic. I was so nervous before my wedding, I really didn't think I could get up and speak in front of all those people. after my session with you, I felt so confident and relaxed about my forthcoming speech. In fact, they couldn't shut me! You really put me at ease.

  • Susan

I must admit I was very apprehensive about whether hypnotherapy could help me to lose weight. My friend recommended you to me as she had been to see you for two sessions and has since lost a stone. After my session, I cam away feeling motivated and enthusiastic. I haven't wanted to eat between meals and I find that I am nowhere near as hungry as I used to be. I'm feeling great...

  • R. Howitt

    Northwich, Cheshire

I would like to thank you for taking the time to visit us and talk about hypnotherapy and its place in sports enhancement. My students were very impressed and found the whole experience very informative. They and myself included particularly found the practical demonstration an extremely relaxing and motivational experience. Many of my students reported feeling much more focused on their training.

I also found it wonderful that you, yourself regularly practice self-hypnosis as part of your own sports training programme and the effects it has had on your own endurance stamina. it really does prove the "mind over matter" debate within this profession. I hope that you will come and visit us again soon.

Got Questions?

Let's Answer Them

Got questions about how therapy works, or what to expect? We have answered some of the most common questions to help you feel informed and at ease before getting started.

  • Will I Tell You Something I Don’t Want You To Know?

No, you remain in control the whole time. If there is something that you prefer to keep private, then that is your choice.

  • Can I Get Stuck In A Trance?

No, it’s impossible to get stuck in a trance. You can open your eyes at any time during the session, ending the hypnotic state immediately. Sometimes clients feel so relaxed that they feel a little reluctant to end the sensation but they never stay in a trance.

  • Are There Any Side Effects?

No, there are absolutely no negative side effects from being hypnotised. It is a perfectly safe and natural way of using your inner resources to reorganise your thoughts and behaviours to bring about beneficial change. After the session you will feel very relaxed but it’s completely safe to drive, operate machinery or anything else.

  • Surely A Stage Hypnotist Can Control My Mind?

No. If someone volunteers to be hypnotised by a stage hypnotist they know what they are letting themselves in for. They know they are going to be made an object of fun for entertainment purposes but they are game for a laugh and happy to go along with it. If someone was dragged out of the audience against their will, then whatever the stage hypnotist tried would not work.

  • Will You Be Able To Control My Mind?

No, this is a common misconception. Hypnotherapy is all about you having more control of your own mind, so the client is the one who has control. Nothing will be said to you under hypnosis that is not for your benefit but if you didn’t agree with anything, your mind would just reject it.
